Your smile is important. It’s one of the first things you notice when you meet someone. A whiter, brighter smile is beautiful – it can help you feel better about yourself and make a memorable impression.
Your lifestyle and the aging process can stain and darken your teeth. Many things we do on a regular basis can contribute to stained teeth, such as drinking coffee, tea, cola and red wine or smoking.
Composite fillings are preferred by most dentists over the traditional amalgam (silver) fillings. Amalgam fillings have been the center of controversy, when it comes to their mercury content, for years. With resin fillings, there are no metallic elements.
Composite fillings require less tooth structure to be removed during tooth preparation, many times resulting in smaller fillings.
We will make an impression of the tooth and a dental laboratory will create the crown. You will typically leave the office with a temporary crown to wear while the permanent crown is being made – this takes about two weeks. The permanent crown is then bonded onto your tooth. Typically, only two visits are required for this part of the procedure. Crowns can be made from different materials such as porcelain, zirconia, or procera. Tooth crowns usually last ten to fifteen years.
Zirconia is the new preferred choice in tooth restoration and replacement. Zirconia is a strong ceramic foundation that is used to support an all-ceramic crown or bridge. In clinical testing, it has proven to have specific advantages over all-ceramic materials. The benefits of Zirconia include:
- Strong – Dependable for years of enjoyment.
- Biocompatible – No chance of allergic reaction or rejection of metal in the mouth.
- Natural Appearance – Boasts translucency that closely resembles the “pearlescence” of a natural tooth.
- Customized Color – Stains are mixed right into the ceramic before it’s shaped so that it completely matches your natural tooth color.
- Better Fit – Lends itself to the most advanced computer-aided manufacturing processes so that it fits better than any crown you’ve had before.
Chameleon Composites
Now, in our office we are happy to offer our patients the latest in cosmetic composites.
These new fillings are made with an advanced technology which is referred to as the chameleon effect.
This technology allows us to match a composite with any shade or color of tooth like never before.
See photos below before and after using composite materials with the chameleon effect.
Porcelain veneers are thin wafers of porcelain, about half a millimeter thick (the thickness of a fingernail) that are bonded onto the front of teeth to create a beautiful smile. Porcelain mimics tooth structure better than any other restorative material. It is harder than enamel, so it resists wear and can last for many years. Dental artists can manipulate the color and translucency to re-create the look of any tooth. And it resists stain better than tooth enamel. Very rarely will it discolor, unless the surface has been damaged.
Invisalign can be used to treat the vast majority of common problems when the teeth are misaligned for adults and teens. To help you get a more beautiful smile, Invisalign uses a series of clear, removable aligners to gradually move your teeth. Whether your smile needs minor improvements or more extensive adjustments, Invisalign can certainly help. It’s successful in treating overly crowded or widely spaced teeth.
